YSL vs. Louboutin: Red-Sole Dispute Comes to an End!

After 18 months of disputing, the federal district court has finally dismissed the lawsuit Christian Louboutin has against YSL. Christian Louboutin sued YSL for trademark infringement when YSL debuted their monochromatic red pumps for their 2011 Resort collection. The court has ruled that Christian Louboutin's trademark of red-soles will only be protected for shoes with contrasting colored uppers, therefore YSL will be granted the right to continue production of their red pump with red sole.

Margiela for H&M

I went to check out the new Margiela for H&M collection and I was pretty impressed with how cool this collection was in comparison with previous collaborations like Versace and Marni. In the United States H&M made the collection available in 40 stores nationwide with is a significantly larger amount than previous collections like Marni, which was only available in 26 stores nationwide. The Margiela for H&M collection can be found at all 11 Manhattan locations. When I visited the H&M location on 86th and lexington a few days after the launch I was pleased and somewhat surprised to see that they still had almost all of the pieces of the collection still in stock. "Women's Wear Daily" reported that H&M saw a smaller turnout for the collection than expected. The first two items to sell-out were the candy wrapper clutch for $59.95 and the white high-top sneakers for $129. My favorite pieces from the collection were the nude long-sleeved bodysuits with a black padded bra applique for $39.95, all of the leather shoes with plastic angular wedge heels for $299-$399, and the leather necklace with strands of rhinestones in varying length for $59.95. If you haven't already gone to look at this collaboration I would make your way to one of the participating locations before it is too late.

Milan Fashion Week Highlights

Prada got a lot of attention for their Milan Fashion Week Spring 2013 runway show. Women's Wear Daily highlighted the accessories and the shoes from the show as being some of the most impressive of all the Milan Fashion Week runway shows. When I first looked through the collection on Style.com I was not that "wowed" by the designs, but after looking through the collection several times now it is definitely starting to grow on me. The inspiration for the show comes from asian influences such as the japanese blossom, geishas, and kimonos. There is no disputing that the sunglasses from the runway show were amazing featuring the asian inspired blossoms across the top for an edgy and fashion-forward look. The shoes were inspired by geisha platforms and sandals. The sandals had chunky heels and satin bows to polish the look. Miuccia Prada also paired these fun shoes with metallic and pink leather socks. Asian prints and tailoring are a huge trend coming from all of the Fashion Week runway shows and you will definitely find me trying it out!

Spring 2013 Trend: Bra Tops

Victoria Beckham...AWESOME!
Richard Chai
DKNY
Derek Lam
WWD reported that bra tops are one of the sexiest trends from New York Fashion Week runway shows. I couldn't be happier! My bra top collection definitely grew over the summer, scoring some amazing vintage bra tops at flea markets and consignment stores. Frederick's of Hollywood has also become a new obsession of mine, selling cheap and cute corsets and bodysuits. I fully support the innerwear as outerwear movement!

My fav Frederick's of Hollywood bodysuit!

Alexander Wang Does It Again

Spring 2013
Fall 2012

Alexander Wang stunned the fashion world again at his Spring 2013 runway show. Wang says his collection is a play on the "urban uniform" taking basic pieces like the t-shirt, board short, windbreaker, and parka and updating it with cut-outs and animal-inspired abstract detailing. Wang says he does this through "eyeletting"and many of the garments have croc spines eyeletted down the back. At the end of the show Wang once again demonstrates that he is one of the most creative and innovative designers when he turns on a black-light and his models glow in the dark, making his show one of the most talked about of all the fashion week shows. Wang's show back in Spring for Fall 2012 also turned heads because of his use of fishnet turtlenecks and large jacket hoods to create a cage-like look to his models. It was during this show that Alexander Wang proved he is a force to be reckoned it when he debuted and spear-headed the mixed-media trend that swept the fashion world after the runway shows. Designs mixed different materials like leather, tweed, and fishnet making his show very memorable. Alexander Wang continues to be one of my favorite designers and I can't wait to see what he does next!

Spring 2013 Colors Trends By Pantone

Pantone revealed the color trends for Spring 2013. The top five colors for women are a nautical color story that are fresh and fun for spring, and can be easily incorporated into your wardrobe. Monaco Blue is the top color trend in Spring 2013 fashion for both men and women. The colors ranking six through 10 are a pop-art inspired color story that will liven up any outfit! I am especially excited about adding pieces in "Tender Shoots" and "Poppy Red" to my wardrobe, all of the colors go really nicely together and are definitely something different.

Glitter In The Air

After the Spring 2012 New York Fashion Week it was very apparent that waxed denim was going to be a big trend. I still really like the waxed denim look and I have noticed a lot of waxed denim jeans made by J Brand. The trend has now transitioned into a metallic painted and speckled denim some even with victorian damask prints. I came across a pair of silver painted Hudson jeans at work today that were really cute and on-trend. Seven For All Mankind carries the fashion-forward gold jeans worn by the first girl in the photo above. Current Elliott is another brand that is always on top of the denim trends, and their version can be seen in the fourth girl in the photo above. The great thing about this new trend is that it is mixing the waxed denim trend from early spring and the floral print denim from late spring and making it better. This trend is guaranteed to be here for a while!

Alexander Wang Splurge!

Purchased this beautiful Alexander Wang purse from work today. Black pebbled leather with edgy zippers and cross-body straps. Perfect for a city girl!

Marimekko: A fresh face at New York Fashion Week

New print being shown in the Spring 2013 show!
Marimekko will be joining New York Fashion Week this year to show their Spring 2013 collection. The Finnish company is known for their apparel, housewares, bags, and fabrics. If you have never heard of this store you should definitely check it out, especially if you are a fan of Missoni and Jonathan Adler. The flagship store in the United States opened last October and is located at 200 5th Avenue, right next to Eataly. The store is bright and lively and the employees are very knowledgeable about their products and company's history. The word Marimekko is partly "Mari" a girl's name deriving from the founder Armi and partly "mekko" which is Finnish for dress. When you go into the store you will find that all the employees are wearing a striped shirt. The striped shirt was one of the first designs by Marimekko and symbolizes a unisex pattern that promotes equality.

Fashion Designer Devyn Shaughnessy

Devyn Shaughnessy is an extremely creative up and coming designer in New York City. She makes the most unique and sexy leggings and dresses out there, using all different kinds of textured and printed fabrics. Her pieces are one of a kind and guarantee to turn heads. Check out her facebook page and her online store

Studded is a habit

So I'm kind of obsessed with studs and I recently purchased some fabulous studded pieces at the LF sale and at Buffalo Exchange. I got a this sheer white polyester blouse with silver studs on the collar ($60ish) from the LF sale at the Spring Street location, and I purchased the badass studded bra from Buffalo Exchange in gold and silver for $19.50 each. This outfit is super fun and comfortable. I wore my black disco pants from American Apparel with the outfit as well as my two-toned unisex oversized watch from Michael Kors.

My end of summer style!

High-waisted denim cut-offs are a huge trend right now and have been throughout the summer. I can't even count the number of girls I have seen wearing them around the Fashion Institute of Technology. My favorite high-wasted denim cut-offs in my closet are a pair of light-wash retro Wrangler cut-offs I scored at the Wear House in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. I paired them with a retro safari print bat-winged blouse, orange Sparkle & Fade bandeau, a taupe pebbled leather Rebecca Minkoff cross-body purse, a gold Michael Kors watch, Betsey Johnson aviators, and snake-skin Cole Haan sandals. Perfect for a hot day in the city!

LF END OF SUMMER SALE!

LF is having their end of summer sale making their clothes somewhat affordable. The reason I go to their sales is because they have an awesome selection of Jeffrey Campbell, Dolce Vita, and Steve Madden shoes. During the sale all heels and wedges are a flat price of $48. Yes, even Jeffrey Campbells which retail for close to $200 a pair. I was lucky enough to score a pair of limited edition night walkers by Jeffrey Campbell. They are blue metallic with a faint snakeskin print. I am in love with them! Store locations in the city are 149 Spring Street, and 150 5th Avenue. If you plan on going to the sale I would go sooner than later because it has already been going on for a couple weeks and it tends to get picked over quickly! http://www.lfstores.com/

Rihanna Cage Dress!

Purchase of the day! Rihanna wore this cage dress by Funktional at a Nokia X6 launch in 2009, and it soon sold out because it only $85. I was lucky enough to come across the exact same dress at my work at Buffalo Exchange in Chelsea, New York. It was a steal at only $22.50!
